The Registered Nurse - Acute & Ambulatory Care is a regulated member of the health care team who uses the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation), critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills, in keeping with the standards, and scope of nursing practice set by the Registered Nurses Association of Northwest Territories and Nunavut (RNANT/NU) and the policies, protocols, and guidelines of the Hay River Health & Social Services Authority, to provide quality nursing care to all clients, families, groups, communities and populations across the lifespan in all practice settings. The RN is a generalist who provides nursing care to clients with acute, emergency, surgical, post-operative recovery, maternity/newborn and palliative care needs. 

The Public Health Registered Nurse provides holistic, community health services that prevent and reduce the incidence of communicable disease, protect the health status of clients within the community, promote community wellness, and ensure comprehensive public health services are provided using the principles of Primary Health Care. Functions within the parameters of established health authority, regional, territorial, and professional nursing standards and policies.

The Home Care Registered Nurse provides comprehensive, quality nursing care to clients of all ages and their families in the clients’ home. The overall result expected is cost-effective client-centered nursing care focusing on restoring and maintaining the health of clients after acute illness, injury or surgery. Furthermore, the purpose of this position is to protect and restore health of clients after acute illness, injury or surgery; to monitor and maintain health of clients with chronic illness; to provide palliative care and to coordinate appropriate community based services for clients.

The Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse is a member of the Acute & Ambulatory Services team who provides general and advanced nursing care to clients of the HRHSSA. The Medical Surgical RN may be assigned to provide services in various units of the hospital on this basis including but not limited to: Acute and Ambulatory Care, Endoscopy, Operating Room, Recovery Room, and Dialysis.

The Dialysis Registered Nurse provides advanced nursing care to clients of the Dialysis Unit in accordance with established standards of nursing practice and the philosophy and objectives of the Hay River Health & Social Services Authority to ensure that the clients’ physical, emotional, psycho-social, spiritual and educational needs are met.



•    Must be already eligible to live & work in Canada
•    Must have Bachelor of Nursing/BSC degree from an accredited university (with Canadian equivalencies)
•    Must pass the NCLEX exam
•    Eligible to register as an RN with RNANT/NU & maintain active registration; annual renewal fees paid by Employer.
•    Experience in an Acute Care hospital, Public Health Unit, or Long Term Care/Home Care  is desirable, however we’re willing to train new grads 
•    Current CPR certification is required, which is also offered in-house
•    Bilingual in English & French or any of the 11 official languages of the NWT is an asset

Salary:    Base salary starting at $45.54 to $54.39 per hour (Range 15) + shift differentials, OT, etc.

In addition to an attractive salary, we offer a generous relocation package, as well as Northern Allowance of $2.60 per hour up to $5,282 per year (changes annually).
