Alternate Stream (Teaching-Focused) Appointments in Nursing

Applications are invited from highly qualified individuals for five (5) full time Alternate Stream (teaching-focused) tenure-track positions in the School of Nursing, Faculty of Health at the rank of Assistant Lecturer, commencing July 1, 2019. We are seeking individuals with demonstrated expertise in each the following areas: Common & Complex Health Challenges Across the Lifespan; Mental Health/Mental Illness in the Context of Primary Health Care; Child and Adolescent Health in the Context of Primary Health Care; Primary Health Care and the Global Context of Nursing. Responsibilities for these positions include teaching in the undergraduate program, pedagogical leadership, and academic service.

Candidates must have the equivalent of at least 5 years of full-time recent nursing experience in the declared area of expertise. Applicants with additional recent evidence-informed clinical experience in Maternal, Newborn Child Health, Medical Surgical, Paediatrics and Mental Health will be looked upon favourably.

Candidates must (1) be registered in good standing or eligible for registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario; (2) hold a Bachelor’s degree in nursing; (3) possess a Master’s degree in a relevant area (Master’s in nursing preferred); and (4) a PhD in Nursing or a related field is required with consideration given to candidates with outstanding professional and leadership experience in nursing who are currently enrolled in an appropriate doctoral program or whose educational background suggests eligibility for admission to an appropriate doctoral program.

The successful candidate must demonstrate excellence or clear potential for excellence in teaching university-level courses, a strong commitment to pedagogy and student success, and the capacity to bring a theoretical and practical orientation to teaching, learning and program design. A record of pedagogical innovation in areas such as professional practice, experiential education, technology enhanced learning and community-based learning is preferred as is experience with curriculum development and universal design approaches to teaching and assessment. Evidence of experience in the development of teaching resources, assessment tools and workshops for colleagues is an asset. Creating or maintaining an independent program of research is not an expectation.

Experience in the broader context of nursing (e.g., policy development, program planning) and experience serving on professional committees or governance bodies are viewed as assets.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. All York University positions are subject to budgetary approval.
