The Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) at McMaster University strives to respond to the significant health disparities that exist between Indigenous peoples and non-Indigenous Canadians. FHS has committed to work towards creating a culturally safe and humble environment to enable sustainable systems to change to advance the work and concepts of truth, reconciliation and anti-colonization with all aspects of Indigenous health and well-being.
Reporting jointly to the Dean and Vice-President, and to the Executive Vice-Dean and Associate Vice- President, Academic, Faculty of Health Sciences, the Associate Dean, Indigenous Health works closely with leaders within FHS, the University and the broader community to promote a self-determination focused and interdisciplinary approach to a change process that that aims to close the gaps in health for Indigenous populations through influencing change in the areas of policy, education, and clinical practise. The Associate Dean is the FHS lead for indigenous concerns that arise within the Faculty and works closely with the Associate Dean, Equity and Inclusion on broader issues that intersect both portfolios.
As the leader of the Indigenous Health Learning Lodge, the Associate Dean works with community elders, faculty and staff to uphold and facilitate awareness, respect and inclusion of Indigenous knowledge systems across FHS.
The Associate Dean will have a distinguished record of leadership. Priority will be given to applicants who’s academic and leadership activities focus on Indigenous knowledge, ways of knowing and methodologies and who have an understanding of the healthcare system in Ontario. The ideal candidate will have a collaborative and collegial style, an innovative approach to problem-solving and the ability to function effectively with colleagues in both the University and the broader community.
The successful candidate will be appointed as the Associate Dean a five-year, term with possibility of renewal, and to a faculty position within FHS at a rank and status commensurate with experience.
